Summary/Abstract: The paper’s aim as an introduction to the section is to outline the theoretical background and present practice of an emerging approach in the realm of psychology; that is, of discursive psychology. Describing the foundation of this new approach, it will be argued that the empirical shift from experiments and quantitative methods to the interpretative analysis of actual, naturally occuring discourses has been theoretically preceded by the dissemination of postmodern thoughts within social scientific disciplines and, practically, by the dissatisfaction with the then current artificial and laboratory approach of mainstream social psychology in the 1970s. The core notions in discursive theory will then be presented contrastively, so as to concentrate on its basic idea, the respecification of psychological concepts in terms of actual discourses and as participants’ concerns in those discourses. Finally, the articles in the section will be briefly introduced and some messianic musings will be provided as for the future of a discipline with a human face.
