Summary/Abstract: This article comments on Michael Burawoy’s article “For Public Sociology”. The author draws up connections between the crisis symptoms found in sociology and the social changes we are experiencing today. Supplementing the critique put forward by Burawoy regarding some aspects of the state and the market the author draws attention to the negative tendencies within the workings of the civil society. The article’s argument also touches on the problem of mediation between academic knowledge and the professional and wider public.
