Summary/Abstract: Promoting the right to nondiscrimination and equality of chances between women and men represents a constant challenge that Romania and the internationl community are facing. The evolution of this right, strongly connected to the history of the human emancipation, had a long and techy route which lead in the last decades to the elaboration of an intern and international legislative frame for combating discrimination and promoting the equalty of chances between men and women. Thus, women are continuously facing a high risk of social exclusion at all levels: economical, political, social and cultural. The present paper suggests some reflections upon the main moments of the evolution of the concept „equalty of chances between men and women” in the intern and international area, taking into account the judicial instruments and the progresses made in this field.
