Summary/Abstract: Social work science, both in our country and abroad, has not yet soundly embedded its own epistemology. From so-called contemporary positions, which are in fact dominated by modernism, epigonism and extreme su-perficiality, answers to key issues of its general philosophic paradigm as a pillar of theory of knowledge, which directly reflects on nature of subject of research, principles, methods and values - slip away. contrary to contempo-rary-fruitless trend, for the sake of valid epistemological grounding, social work science would have to tend to build a philosophical fundament of its epistemology in future, taking into account the activity of social work in its universality, with corresponding multidisciplinary based theory and meth-odology. in difference from actual contemporary social work science, which is limited primarily to - in the text several times underlined humanistic sciences - psychology and sociology, its sources in future contemporariness must be recognized in rich thinking and spiritual legacy of (for millenni-ums sedimented) civilization-historical experience within ancient cultures, wisdom of folks tradition, religions, philosophy and arts. only in this way, modern humanistics can productively ground itself in sense of epistemol-ogy, through development of authentic gnoseology, anthropology, method-ology, axiology, ethics and aesthetics of social work, and that is the only way for overcoming the contemporary-modernistic superficiality.
