Summary/Abstract: The Belarusians are a part of the East Slavs, who were living in Kievan Rus’, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, Russian Empire and SSSR. The influence of the neighbor nations like the Poles and the Russians has contributed to their strong polonization and russification. There was a written form of the Belarusian language in the period of the ХVІ century, but later it was displaced by Polish and Russian. The revival of the Belarusian language happened in the end of the ХІХ and the begging of the XX century via typography and journalism in the language. Through the Soviet period the Belarusians were the most suffering nation from the Stalin’s repressions, the Second World War and the Chernobyl disaster. Nowadays there is a specific occurrence in the urban speech called “trasianka”, a mixture of Russian and Belarusian. Also, their political situation of the presidential power today is due to the speeches of Lukashenko, which inspire the self-confidence of the today’s Belarusians.
