Leadership as a factor of development and growth of innovative organization

Summary/Abstract: In the paper an analysis of the influence of different leadership styles on innovativeness and effectiveness is presented. The analysis is based on a widely recognized distinction between transactional and transformational leadership [Bass 1985]. The understanding of a leader’s role in promoting the organizations’ innovativeness and effectiveness demands gaining a wider knowledge of mechanisms through which such actions take place. The study of a sample of 219 Polish companies from Silesia region confirmed that leadership plays a significant role in enhancing innovation and stimulating organizational performance.
