Summary/Abstract: The article shows how puzzling the author of the drama Platonov iso The writer never mentioned it or an enigmatic detective story The Drama ol the f{unting, whose episodes were published in the newspaper "Novosti dnia", of which, as it appears, he preferred to forget. Why? The question has not been answered, though one rnay speculate on it. The same refers to his correspondence, which is a high class epic picture, the integral part of his prose. With the simplicity and sincerity of his epistolary and belletristic writings, Chekhov remains an incomprehensible writer and a puzzle for the critics and researchers.
