Summary/Abstract: In scholarly literature, different opinions about the manner of the succession to the throne and supreme rule in medieval Serbia have been outlined; in that, the fact that the Serbs founded several states in the Middle Ages has not been taken into consideration. However, in spite of this, the rule of one person was consolidated in all Serbian states. Starting from this fact, as well as the results achieved by other researchers, the author has pointed out that from the oldest times and during the entire medieval period, monarchical rule was strengthened in all Serbian states.
