Summary/Abstract: The Romanian people of the Transylvania of the years after the 1848 revolutions and until the Unification in 1918 appealed to – in order to assert its national identity and to adjust it to the tendencies of time – a wide variety of institutions: churches, schools, reviews (of encyclopaedic, cultural and literary, political and historic, and pedagogical), devotional and educational institutions, choral reunions, economic and banking societies, etc. All these depended on two concepts: family and nationality. Considered to be a fundamental element in social life, the family constituted a representation and reflection object in the Romanian reviews of that time. The present work capitalizes on the family’ information detached from some of the best known heterogeneous Romanian reviews: Familia, Transilvania, Luceafărul. Aspects have been revealed through these references concerning marriage, legitimate and illegitimate children, protection of the nationality identity through name days, girls’ education, necessity to exist parity in school and social preparation among the two sexes, expositions with children, and cooperation between school and family. The materials didn’t have an informative feature or the role to register a matter of fact, but they proposed certain realities for meditation and action, and they suggested explanations and solutions. The approached texts reveal the interest shown by the Transylvanian reviews concerning the family matter; they signalize a matter of fact i.e. what issues arise within family life, the way in which the family was perceived, and a positive purpose: supporting its social and spiritual values.
