Assessment of the banking sector in Europe

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is the assessment of banking sector in Europe during the times of prosperity and economic downturn. The study was conducted for selected countries. The authors analyzed the level of development of the countries and the measures characterizing the banking sector. They also examined the correlation coefficients for analyzed determinants. The article consists of four parts. In the introduction it describes the events that occurred during the crisis and their impact on the banking sector. First and second chapters characterize the variables describing the market for banks and their transformations resulting from the consolidation of the sector. In the last part, there is a summary, presenting final conclusions.
