Summary/Abstract: This article presents and compares value system theories of M. Rokeach and S.H. Schwartz, who consider the idea of values to be essential in social research and who created adequate diagnostic tools. It emphasizes that research on value systems is significant in the context of general changes in the political system in Poland.
