Summary/Abstract: Our study is a complete presentation of the neologisms and loan translations imported from French in Iancu Văcărescu’s original works and in his translations of dramatic works (most of all Racine’s Britannicus and Scribe’s Bertrand et Raton). We also reveal the translator’s hesitations, inconsequences and awkwardness, all of which are explainable subjectively and objectively (by the undevelopped status of the Romanian literary language).
