Summary/Abstract: Romanian representatives activity at the UN General Assembly, between 1964-1971, was one of the most intense since joining the organization in 1955. On the other hand, there were years when the Romanian presence in the world forum and initiatives have drawn attention to the Western world, especially the U.S., through the level of representation, the discourse practiced, the resolutions proposed and the way it gave its vote on various occasions. The chronological presentation we propose regarding this eight years of Romanian presence and activity at the UN has the intention to demonstrate that the UN General Assembly session was a suitable framework for Romania to confirm her attempts to follow a foreign policy line at least autonomous of Moscow. The approach is based on exploiting archival documents created by the Radio Free Europe analysts, very attentive to Romania's international performance in those years, the use of Romanian and American press articles and some memories of the protagonists. Going through all of these sources creates an image of Romania as a country trying to impose in international affairs firm principles arising from compliance with the UN Charter and, to the same extent, trying to make discordant note to the Soviet Union and other socialist states.
