Intelligence analysis in the field of defense and national security intelligence

Summary/Abstract: More than ever, a great deal of information flood different channels towards the decisionmakers and the intelligence analyst has to cope with a growing responsibility to maintain relevance for national security. This task brings defence analysis a shaky grounds between the political territory of solving a public issue and the shady realm of the secret services. In military analysis, somewhat far from public knowledge there is still room for clearcut actionable intelligence. However, at national security level, the analyst needs distance himself from politics and has to produce situation awareness, strategic warning and sound assessments free of political bias.
