Summary/Abstract: In an extremely fragmented and divided postmodern age, as the contemporary one is, the narrowness of mind and the inertia of thoughts, accepted in another century, may be genuine threats to national security of any country. Although such an accusation may seem unsubstantiated or exaggerated, the explanation is simple: the inability to be in harmony with ”the spirit of the time”, the lack of an adequate response to everyday events, wheather exceptional or not, hanging upon the same previously tested behavioural patterns may be inappropriate in a society primarily defined by its accelerating rhythm of changes and will certainly trigger disasters. This is the main argument which advocates for the need to articulate a specific domain of intelligence and start building a strong security culture among citizens. A major role, in this context, belongs to the academic environment.
