The Aspects of Politics of Memory in Serbia

Summary/Abstract: The article contains two parts. In the first part of article the author thematises the importance of the memory during the past and ongoing decade. First of all, he takes into account the following dimensions, a) the social conditions of being that determine the dynamics of memory, b) the exchange between the collective and individual aspects of memory, c) conflicted memories. In the second part of article the author deals with the problems of memory and justice in the context of Serbia, actually, he demonstrates the dimensions that are analogous, and the dimensions that represent the difference in relation to the other countries of post-communist constellation. He puts the question that concerns the differentia specifi ca of Serbia in relation to the experience of a)socialism, b)war, c)transition. His conclusion is connected to the lack of “beginning” for the new phase of democracy in Serbia that presents the elements of continuity between the last decade and the ongoing period.
