Summary/Abstract: The article is based on an on-going international project entitled “Euroidentities”; the project applies one of the modern qualitative sociological methods, viz. the biographical method, in order to grasp the essential features of the evolution and importance of the European identity as seen through the prism of individual biographical narratives. Using the “bottom-up” approach, the authors present an overview of the preliminary results of the fieldwork on one of the sensitized groups, i.e. farmers from the geographical and social space of European integration. Some common characteristics have been deduced, as well as differences among interviewees regarding the formation, development and enhancement of the image of Europe and its institutions. The perception of European phenomena, the European social and cultural environment as a field in which individual identities evolve toward the construction of collective identities, are dealt with in the paper.
