Summary/Abstract: According to the office they held, officials in the Ottoman governance were given estates that corresponded to their level of seniority. Their positions allowed them to obtain different types of estates, such as serfdoms, which were yet another source of their wealth. The largest estates were held by sanjakbeys, followed by officers of lower ranks. They had an opportunity to provide for their family members, so that entire families rose as much as their most prominent member advanced his position. This paper presents specific examples from the Ottoman sources, which is a new contribution to the history of the most prominent families in the sanjak of Klis in the 16th and early 17th centuries.
