Phenomenological Sociology and the Study of Culture

Summary/Abstract: Is phenomenological sociology phenomenological? And what kind of reduction does it impose? Why Husserl together with all the king’s men phenomenologists cannot determine a simple sociological fact like the population of Chicago? Why does Schutz abandon philosophy and what salvation sociology can bring him? Tentative answers to these questions shall be given, before we can turn to the discussion of the foundations of a sociology of culture as part of the phenomenological tradition.
