Summary/Abstract: author deals with the critical approach to the theory of Czech syntax presented by the Prague group called Prague Dependency Treebank that continues in the specific generative conceptions of the Functional Generative Description. The main problem is seen in the deductivist character off the description and in the urge to comply with the chosen type of formalism. Out of the criticised notions, attention is paid mainly to the terms of dependency, valency, sentence vs. utterance, predicative complement (verbal attribute), word order, and functional sentence perspective. Despite some partial (but principial) objections, author’s attitude towards the new conception is positive.
