Summary/Abstract: It can be observed that on the one hand, the desire of modern man for safe transport system is unlimited, while resources (natural ones, capital, labour and knowledge) at man’s disposal are limited. Namely, man is an imperfect being who is prone to make mistakes and wrong decisions, so the goal is to reduce errors in decision making in all stages of organization and management of or participation in the system, ensuring the need for efficient and reliable transport system to reduce the risk of the road transport to a minimum. The research in this paper shows that in the period from 2001 to 2010, the number of the killed and the injured in the Republic of Serbia decreased and there is a correlation with the growth (decline) of real GDP. Based on the research the assumption is confirmed that Serbia still does not manage the system of road traffic safety, but the situation changes “spontaneously“ year after year and in certain degree of correlation it depends on traffic volume, increase (decrease) of GDP but also on political will.
