Summary/Abstract: I propose to investigate Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre within the framework of autobiography as a genre, and address the question of how the female autobiographer can come into possession of a voice that capacitates her to tell a story of her own, and how the capacity of telling the story is conflated, on the level of textuality, with the capacity of controlling her life.
