Summary/Abstract: The identification of smart specialization in Polish regions will constitute, among others, the condition for accessing European Union funds for the programming period 2014- 2020. Additionally, the need to define smart specialization in particular regions has also been emphasized in the documents of strategic significance for Poland. Therefore the objective of the paper is to provide the assessment regarding the direction of smart specialization development changes in Polish regions. Defining the level of Polish regions’ coverage by the distinguished classes in the accepted research period (2000-2010) allowed to estimate the fuzzy switch matrix and to specify the directions of changes in the specialization of Polish regions.
