Learning region’s competitiveness – a conceptual approach

Summary/Abstract: Competition in the global world economy is observed not only between companies, but also between national economies and regions. In the scientific literature a special place is devoted to the learning region concept – one of the most recent regional innovation models. Some researchers consider the learning region as a synthesis of some theoretical models elaborated before and highlight its importance to the socio-economic development by combining regional learning processes and some unique regional characteristics. The paper is an attempt to show a conceptual approach of the learning region’s competitiveness. Starting with the notion of learning region and learning region’s competitiveness, the author discusses the determinants and indicators that can be used to measure the learning region’s competitiveness.
