Summary/Abstract: Mihail Sebastian is an important writer, of Jewish origin, of the Romanian literature. He has recently reentered the world cultural actuality after the publication of his intimate diary. it is a diary that bears testimony of the intellectual climate in ROmania between 1935-45, and it was compared, not accidentally, with Klemperer's diary. Elvin's essay points out with significant examples from Sebastian's work the writer's eprmanent adversity agains Nazism and Communism alike. Sebastian was the only writer of his generation who constantly opposed the two totalitarisms.
