Summary/Abstract: Cardinal Iuliu Hossu – personality of the greates historical events The author grounds his critical discourse on some valuable novel series of documents for the historiographic and scientific research, emphasizing the evolution of the Greek-Catholic Diocese of Gherla, later on of Cluj-Gherla, under the Bishop`s lead of Dr. Iuliu Hossu, the future Cardinal of the United Church of Romania. The Episcopal devotion was held in Blaj on the 4th of December 1917, and was followed by his naming in a higher post of honor of the Diocese of Gherla United with Rome on the 13th of Decembre 1917. This were important moments wich pushed him forward in the course of historical and national events of the Romanian people and of the country itself. In less than a year since his devotional act, he got involved in the frenzy of carrying out of the great historical event on the 1st Decembre 1918, that is the materialization of the national unity of the Romanians and the forming of the Romanian National State, which brought great advantages to the Romanian nation. The greatness of the event was lessened by the enemies of the national unity who were not able to adjust themselves to the sentence of history and plotted to attent upon the life of the High Hierarch, and although they hailed to get him killed, the attempt had haunted the bishop during his whole life.
