Summary/Abstract: This article investigates the role of tolerance for ambiguity in the creative personality. Two studies were conducted: the first consisted of measuring tolerance, creativity and other personality variables in the case of 380 students in the technical field. The findings show that tolerance for ambiguity does not correlate with creative potential but, it does with creative motivation and four of its factors. The only factor in the Big Five model related to tolerance for ambiguity is Self-actualization defined by its three facets: Thoroughness, Creativity and Refinement. In the second study, tolerance for ambiguity was correlated with the generation of ideas, using 52 subjects participating in brainstorming sessions, who were divided into four groups. The findings show an increase of originality for the subjects with high ambiguity tolerance.
