Summary/Abstract: Dictionary examples usually have two primary functions: a documentary and a illustrative one. Sometimes they are also used to present the right way of using the language, but are also an element of the political or cultural life of the society. Such an educational attempt can be seen in Wielki słownik frazeologiczny języka polskiego by Piotr Müldner‑Nieckowski. In his dictionary examples the author tries to present some general knowledge concerned with different disciplines of science. The author conducts imaginary dialogs and shows the proper way of behavior and propagates patriotism. What still remains as an open question is the fact whether Witold Doroszewski’s assumption that reading dictionaries changes people holds true.
