Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses writers' language dictionaries as specific forms of lexicographical studies. By comparing these dictionaries with other ones it points out to certain technical differences. The paper also raises the questions whether such lexicographical endeavors are useful for literature and culture researchers. Moreover, the article presents the origin and methodology of Polish writers' language dictionaries that were published and shows their most important features by quoting relevant entries. The paper reveals various developmental trends which can be observed in this area of Polish lexicography, such as departing from strictly philological description in favour of the analysis of semantics, metaphorics and style. Such analysis provides an insight into the basics of our culture.
