Summary/Abstract: The issue raised in the article belongs to the area of deliberations on the usefulness in lexicographical practice of semantic explications presented in linguistic works. The adjective {good} selected for discussion is a basic lexeme which serves the purpose of expressing a positive evaluation and by means of which categories having an evaluative function and which are semantically more complex can be defined. The article consists of three parts. The first one contains a description of how the adjective {good} has been described in dictionaries of the Polish language with particular emphasis placed on the aspect of isolating its meanings. In the second part lexicographical descriptions have been juxtaposed with selected analyses of the discussed adjective put forward by linguists. The issues which are mentioned here include explicating the exclusively evaluative meaning of the adjective good as well as negating the polysemic character of this lexeme. The third part is an attempt at answering the question what uses can be found for the presented semantic analyses in lexicographical descriptions.
