Summary/Abstract: The author presents the reception in the German cultural and scientific world of The History of the Ottoman Empire, the work that made Dimitrie Cantemir well-known in Europe. There are mentioned the first testimonies about the work’s manuscript, its use by German scholars, the way in which the editions printed in English (1734-1735), French (1743) and German (1745) were received, its favourable reception, yet not without criticism, by numerous personalities: historians, geographers, Orientalists, authors of textbooks and compendiums, travel journals etc. They used in their works the rich informative material in The History of the Ottoman Empire, a work of authority in the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, until the publication of Hammer Purgstall’s book.
