Summary/Abstract: All the rituals people have always performed had reiterative patterns. As the society evolved and became modern, the rituals started to lose their sacred character and transformed into a series of events we now call festivals. In its first part, the paper focuses on how first festivals came into being and tried to reshape the identity of a certain cultural environment. In the second part, the author analyses the way a modern festival should work: in a close connection with locals, aligning their needs to those of the visitors and of the artists.
