Summary/Abstract: The text is an attempt to work out the theoretical categories of subjective position and subjective field based on Jacques Lacan’s theory. These categories allow us to examine one of important problems of the modern theory of subject, i.e. the tension between its absolute unity and the diversity immanent to it. This tension is known in the post-Kantian philosophy as incommensurability between the transcendental and empirical subject. In the analysis the author uses the difference between the definition of subject originating from the linguistics (in which the subject is the subject in the sentence) and the philosophical one (in which a subject is a substance). The point which allows to connect these two perspectives is referential approach to both the subjective and the objective, which is characteristic of Lacan’s theory, as famously expressed by the phrase “the signifier represents the subject to another signifier”.
