Ways of Expressing Gender in Rural Speech.(Exemplified by the Dialect of the Spiš Region)

Summary/Abstract: The main issue in this paper is to present some aspects of grammatical and natural gender relationship through existing symmetries and asymmetries in linguistic structures in this type of language. The dialect reveals a lot of specific differences in this aspect of grammatical category. The differences in the dialect concern mainly fluctuations in gender of some nouns and different use of masculine and non-masculine gender forms. There are discussed especially the most important lexical issues concerning this category. The asymmetric vision of woman and man in the rural structure has a reflection in language. The author quotes examples from vocabulary of the Spisz region.
