CHALLENGES OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND MULTICULTURALISM

Summary/Abstract: The diversity is becoming a key feature of modern societies. The global migrations, European integration process, the aging of the population, and the changing gender roles are some of the factors, which have brought diversity high on the policy development agenda. This paper examines the potential of the multiculturalism as a phenomenon, which has been fully recognized within the last three decades, and reviews the existing philosophical discussions on cultural diversity by focusing to diversity’s challenges on the actual policy making. However, in order to address more fully the challenges of “an open global society”, multiculturalism must face up to some previously unrecognized, or newly enhanced, aspects of contemporary migrant and ethnic minority dynamics.
