Proper Names in Idiomatic Expressions

Summary/Abstract: Proper names have been one of the major issues that philosophers of language have tried to tackle. Thus, they have developed several theories concerning the means by which proper names refer. The present paper focuses on the usage of proper names in idiomatic expressions. In considering this topic, theories of proper names will be discussed first, then a brief overview on idioms will be provided. Finally, an attempt to provide a perspective on the occurrence of proper names in idioms will be made.
