The Political Image – A Puzzle of Symbols

Summary/Abstract: This paper has emerged from the idea that people need to believe in some forms of institutionalized power. Therefore, they have invented symbols in order to support and create either a material or a mental shape to impersonate their beliefs. The aim of this paper is to approach the idea that the image of a politician, of a person or even of an institution is nothing but a puzzle of symbols, whose pieces are carefully chosen from a socio-cultural background and carefully placed in people’s minds to embody an ideal of power. In order to do this, the present study will offer two main perspectives, starting with a general view and concluding with an in-depth analysis of the image of a particular political leader.
