Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the topical issue of the specialisation for judges in the area of juvenile justice. The author examines some of the prerequisites of the specialised courts and court divisions through the historical perspective. The main point is that all the professionals involved in juvenile justice need additional education and expert skills. It doesn’t matter if the judges deal with civil or criminal cases – in all procedures involving children there is need of competent and sensitive treatment. The specialization for judges is a special requirement as an element of the right of the child to have his or her best interests taken a s a primary consideration.
