Summary/Abstract: The concept of business model has been growing in importance in recent years. According to Fortune 500 ranking, the innovative business model is the main source of success of more than 30 percent of enterprises on the list. There are numerous definitions of business models, however, most of them share the following components: (1) strategic choices, (2) value net, (3) value creation concept, and (4) value appropriation pattern. Business model is often referred to as a “design” or “architecture” of a business. The process of creation and usage of business models is prone to mistakes stemming from e.g. (1) wrong assumptions concerning core business logic, (2) limited number of strategic choices, (3) erroneous understanding of value creation and retention processes, (4) wrong assumptions concerning the value net.
