Summary/Abstract: This essay explores Bachelard’s poetry exercised on Rembrandt’s painting. It analyzes the superposition of three gazes: Rembrandt’s gaze at the philosopher meditating, Bachelard’s gaze at Rembrandt’s look expressed in painting, my own gaze at Bachelard’s look when he sees Rembrandt observing the philosopher in his reverie.
