Summary/Abstract: The Rome I Regulation on the Law Applicable to Contractual Obligations, an instrument by which the Rome Convention of 1980 became part of the European Union, deals with the issue of police regulations in art. 9. While the system of police regulations of the forum shows no changes as compared to the Convention, on the contrary, the Regulation provides a definition meant to clarify the concept under review; paradoxically, it raises quite a lot of questions. The changes brought to the system of the rules of foreign police regulations are significant; justified mainly by the need to ensure legal certainty and reach a compromise that is acceptable for all Member States, these changes partially reveal the objectives that the private international law technique under review traditionally pursues. This study intends to present these new elements and examine them in relation to the case law existing in some Member States.
