The social work center „Agapis”- new modalities to revigorate the social work throughout eclesiastical enviroments of Moldavina Republic

Summary/Abstract: The Orthodox Church of Moldova makes efforts to revigorate the social work area. Although these are only the first steps, church social centres are being opened within eparchial departments, and even within parishes. The Church tries to meet the new social challenges, taking action and expressing its attitude, unwilling to stay indifferent towards them. One of the church centres is Agapis social centre. For seven years it has been implementing informative campaigns, covering such issues, as human trafficking and domestic violence prevention, as well as prevention and fighting maladies like cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS. A special issue is morality and health of the family, and in this context, the Centre involves in overcoming the problems faced by socially vulnerable families and those at risk. Efforts of religious communities need to be joined, in order to solve a number of problems faced by the modern society.
