Summary/Abstract: On the example of a book by the Polish literary scholar Michał Głowiński, who survived the Holocaust, hiding on the ‘Aryan’ side, the author attempts to analyse the phenomenon of double estrangement, i.e. the biographical co-occurence of two identity figures: the Jewish and the homoerotic. Głowiński has described his wartime experiences in volumes of memoirs published over the last thirteen years. In Kręgi obcości [‘Circles of estrangement’], the author comes out of the closet. This article examines the modes of articulation of identity problems in Głowiński's autobiography, particularly the strategies of interchangeability between Jewish and homoerotic discourse.
