Summary/Abstract: The agencies, representing classical art, such as picture galleries, classical concerts, and theatres experience hard times now in many countries. Declining numbers of visitors force galleries to provide more interactive content, theatres and concerts of classical music to change their marketing policies and reduce prices, theatres to stage more up-to-date and popular plays. Moreover, most of the art agencies have to compete for the financial resources and free time of potential visitors with other recreational activities. To win this battle it is vital to know well the potential customers. In this paper we analyze the socio-demographic profile of frequent visitors of picture galleries, concerts of classical music and theatres in the Czech Republic. We use data from two representative surveys conducted in 2004 and 2009 to compare the frequencies of engaging in these types of activities in the Czech Republic and to construct socio-demographic profiles of frequent visitors. Overall number of respondents is 2138. Our results suggest, that the relevant frequencies statistically significantly diminished in 2009 comparing to 2004 supposedly as the result of worsening economic situation. We employ multinomial regression to analyze socio-demographic factors related to how often the respondents engage in classical art activities. We find out that these activities are more frequent for the respondents more educated, living in bigger cities, with smaller families, mostly females, relatively happy in their lives, with left political orientation. Surprisingly, age, income and whether the respondent lives with a partner did not prove to be statistically significant.
