The Origins of Soviet Historiography

Summary/Abstract: The article describes the main developments which occurred in the culture-politics relationship in the USSR during the Stalin period, analyzing as a case study the field of soviet historical science and the impact the Short Course of History of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union had upon it. It emphasizes the party’s progressive drive for total control over culture and historiography, and Stalin’s personal drive for absolute power inside the party.
