Summary/Abstract: The article explores the social significance of „acute pancreatitis” disease, based on data from the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (University Hospital “Dr. G. Stransky”, Pleven) for the period 2005-2009. The article points out that our economic development over the past two decades has proved ineffective in maintaining and improving the health of Bulgarian citizens. An example of the negative effect of eteriorating social and economic indicators on the health of Bulgarians is “acute pancreatitis” disease. Using data from the empirical study of health alongside demographic information, causes for the appearance of this disease are presented and analyzed.
