Summary/Abstract: The image of woman in Pre - Raphaelite picture (II). From Ofelia to Astarte Syriaca. The Pre-Raphaelite feminine images appear as obviously linked to the litterary clichès of the period and also to the way that Queen Victoria's influence was reflected upon the mentalities. For the beggining, we are confronted - in the case of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood - with a strong support of the middle class moral values. Yet, this fact will be followed in time by a constantly growing interest on sexuality together with a glimpse of misogyny, so that the emblematic effigy of the last decade of the Pre-Raphealite painting will be "La belle dame sans merçi".
