Kosovo cannot remain a Quasi-Colony forever

Summary/Abstract: The precarious situation in Kosovo became evident again by the sudden burst of violoence in March 2004. The influential, yet crossbench political scientist Shkelzen Maliqi, in this interview with Dunja Melcic, denounces the appearance of extremist organisations and individuals. At the same time he points out that nealry all the actors on the political scene of Kosovo are driven by inadequate analysis of the situation. Belgrade, according to him, must not regain a central role in the region after all those wars and nationalist delusion. The process of transfer of power to local authrities has to be reinitiated and stagnation need to find an end. ---------------------------------- Wie heikel die Lage im Kosovo ist, äußerte sich in den Gewaltausbrüchen Mitte März. Zugleich macht er deutlich, dass nahezu alle Akteure in Kosovo von unzulänglichen Analysen ausgehen. Belgrad darf nach all den Kriegen und dem nationalistischen Wahn keine zentrale Position mehr in diesem Raum haben, in der Frage der Machtübergabe müsse die Stagnation überwunden werden.
