Summary/Abstract: On the turn of the XXth and XXIst century European city tourism provided a revolution, making metropolis the most attractive product of touristic market. It was again discovered that cities possessing a colorful mosaic of various offers – from architecture and culture, through entertainment, music and sport, to recreation, leisure and even science − may meet the requirements of every touristic segment demand and determine the existence of year round touristic season. The rapid spread expansion of air transport and mature culture, geopolitical and technological consciousness of the tourist himself led to the popularization of the new trend in tourism − generally called the city break. The paper presents an attempt to identify the scale of city break on the European touristic market and the reasons of the popularization of this phenomenon as well as further development perspectives.
