Summary/Abstract: The educational tourism is generally an overlooked field of research as well as sub-sector of the tourism market in Poland. Little attention is also paid to a role of education for tourism development and destination management. This is probably due to the lack of understanding the concept of educational tourism and its economic value. This article presents approaches to understanding an educational tourism and attempts to explain how travelers and tourists could be motivated by a desire to learn; it is suggested that even where this is not the primary reason for travel an educational function education is an important factor of a change in socio-economic sense. The significant role of the education tourism is described based on literature review, with particular emphasis on its social influence, as well as its impact on a visitor and destination economies. It is also suggested that destination management requires more effective marketing which could emphasize a value of education as a demand-stimulating factor.
